Brookfield’s “claim to fame” is Brookfield Zoo which is located on land donated to the Forest Preserve District by Edith Rockefeller McCormick in 1919. It is open all year and draws visitors from all over the world.
About 20% of the homes in Brookfield are bungalows with a wide variety of bi-levels, ranches, Victorians and Cape Code as well as condominiums and duplexes. Brookfield is between Riverside and LaGrange but housing and taxes are much less expensive.
There is easy access to the Eisenhower (I-290) and Stevenson (I-55). O’Hare Airport is about 40 minutes away; Midway is about 15 minutes by car. Driving time to the Loop is 35 minutes but only 25 minutes by Metra.
There are four elementary school districts for residents. They feed into either Riverside-Brookfield High School or Lyons Township High School.
