Originally a small farming community until the 1950’s, Glendale Heights was then transformed into a more traditional neighborhood thanks to Midland Enterprises, who started building residential homes there around 1958. The town was originally named simply Glendale but after a conflict arose with a smaller town in Southern Illinois, they opted to change their name to Glendale Heights. According to the 2000 census, the town of Glendale Heights enjoys a population of about 32,000 and offers its residents a number of suburban amenities. For residents looking for recreational opportunities, Glendale Heights offers programs for all ages ranging from sports to dance to fitness classes. An indoor soccer arena offers residents an opportunity to participate in leagues throughout the winter.

The neighborhood is served by two school districts, 15 and 16. Schools included in these districts are Marquardt Middle School, Winnebago Elementary School and Glen Hill Primary School. Glenbard West and North are the main high schools.
