Incorporated as a village in 1926 and one of the few suburbs which issues licenses for keeping horses, Northfield has maintained a country atmosphere. Surrounded by country clubs, golf courses, and forest preserves, this community remains residential with limited commercial development in the downtown area.
Transportation
Commuters can catch the Chicago & Northwestern line from Winnetka or the Milwaukee District line in Glenview for a 40-minute commute to the Loop. The Edens Expressway is accessible in town, and the Tri-State Tollway is just minutes away. Local bus service is also available.
Schools
Elementary students attend Districts 29 and 34. High school students attend either New Trier School in Winnetka or Glenbrook South High School in Glenview.
Shopping
Shopping areas can be found within the village limits. Specialty stores, antique shops, and restaurants are among a variety of businesses. Old Orchard Mall, in nearby Skokie, features shops including major department stores. Northbrook Court and Edens Plaza in Wilmette are also very popular among residents.
